Hi,

Would anyone have a reference for this coin please?

It appears to be a Continental sterling Edward I imitation penny with the reverse legend reading

? O N E T H O V A Y V E

Which reminds me of the Henry III short cross penny of William on Theford. Presumably this is some sort of corruption of that.

Thanks in advance for any help

Your reverse inscription is almost, but not quite, rightly read. It's actually "MONET NOVA YVE", with obverse + GALCHS COMES PORC.

Gaucher V, Lord of Chatillon and Count of Porciens (1313-1322), minted in Yves (modern-day Belgium). Numista example: https://en.numista.com/197164

The Wikipedia article on the issuer might be of interest: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauch...%C3%A2tillon

Probably Mayhew 246.

If you have the Mayhew catalog and can tell what distinguishes the other variants, I can improve the Numista listing.

Thanks everyone.

That's really helpful. Well investigated.

I don't have Mayhew - I was using the "free to borrow" library version here
https://archive.org/details/sterlin...atio0000mayh

But unfortunately it hasn't been able to load for a few days - not sure if the fault lies with the site or with me.

I'll keep trying with that to see it if loads.

thanks again.
