I'm not sure why you would ask that question, maybe I'm missing something. Do what you feel is right I suppose but would have to agree with Jimbo without more context. If you don't want the coin that you took time to start this thread about, send it back to the seller.

I contacted the seller and let him know that the coin showed up. The ball is in his court. I wasn't trying to play games with anyone. I figured that his response would probably be to ask if I wanted to re-buy the coin or just send it back. I wanted to have my answer settled prior to reaching out. I asked here because you never know what observations people will make. Maybe a knowledgeable Flying Eagle cent person would have said that the coin is junk with the obverse scratch, or maybe that it's a great coin regardless. Someone might have made a previously unknown point about potential issues with keeping versus returning, USPS, insurance, or whatever.

That's a typical die clash. This is a 1857 Flying Eagle cent Snow-8 mule die clash with a quarter dollar.

Did the seller refund you the money because it was lost for an extended time in transit and now it finally arrived after you've been refunded? If yes, and the package looks fine unopened with no signs of any sticky fingers trying to open the package from some so to say seasonal workers of the USPS, then you should be fine. I'd reach out to the seller to offer payment in that case. There's is most likely a business card in the package with contact info to avoid TheBay if that's the case. Or if the seller has been paid and the package looks good....then you should also be fine.....If the package was lost for an extended time, I would only be weary if the package looked tampered with by someone. If you are just unhappy with the coin's appearance from what was shown by the seller, then by all means go about returning the coin.

Happy ending to the story. I worked it out with the seller, and the coin is now mine. I will open up the package and post some images later today. =)
