Contemplating on adding the proof issues to my Liberty nickel collection, I found this in the Heritage archives.

Thought-I'd-Share-A-Research-Find:-1834-Bust-Quarter

Every thought that I had at the moment vanished to focused on this incredible survivor. It defies everything we think we know about long term preservation. For a hundred and fifty plus years (from 1834 until it's encapsulation by NGC) it has evaded the ravages of environment and time. Further, from the planchet to the strike, achieving such contrast under the technological limits of the time are beyond comprehension. My conclusion, the only certainty, is that this specimen saw few hands.

Anyhow, I was researching the past sales of Liberty nickels getting a sense of their values over say, ten years. Currently, most are around the $500-$600 range in PF65 which seems to be a comfortable price.

Excellent discovery. It probably didn't sit forgotten in the back of an old sock drawer for 100+ years...

That is a beautiful coin - but why are you referring to it as a Liberty nickel?

That bust quarter sold for $235,000 in 2013. A bit more costly than your average proof Liberty nickel!

Looking for nickels, found this by chance, found it interesting, had to share it, then went back to looking for nickels?
