i have been collecting for about 10 years now and I have completed a few sets but recently I have found y collecting habits have been changing a bit. I think I am becoming a type collector since coins of a particular series look the same instead of making sets I have started collecting type coins of the better dates.

for instance with the lincoln series I find myself thinking I would for example rather buy as many 1914-d and 1911-s lincolns I can afford then try to put together a complete set.

does anyone else do this

I don't have a lot of interest in collecting complete date sets, although I am trying to put together a date set of 2 Cents & 3CN. My 7070 is taking up most of my funds right now. When it's finished I want to start buying dollar size silver from various countries dated in the 1800's. I guess I like variety.

I hear ya Scott. I am working on a few date sets right now with no real hope of completing them because I don't see myself buying an 1877 IHC any time soon. That's why I've been thinking about doing type sets or other smaller sets with a particular theme, like a set from the American Civil War era, for example.
