I bought this coin off ebay for $20 listed as an 1806 S-270 Draped Bust Large Cent. However the 6 position to the bust didn't look right, neither do the leaves opposite the A on reverse for that. To me it said it has to be a 1796, the date even looks more like 1796 than 1806. After spending about an hour looking at NGC Varieties I couldn't find a match. However, at LargeCents-Net there is an S-100 that is the closest match I could find. I know we have eagle eye experts out here for these so a little help with determining exactly what this is would be appreciated if possible given the condition of the coin. Cheers.

It's definitely not an S-270. I think you could make a pretty good case that it's a 1796 S-100. The date position is right, and the visible devices on the reverse line up pretty well. If you could get it authenticated as a 1796 P01, that would be quite a buy!

Thanks for the input. It would grade details because it has a hit on the reverse in the lower right quadrant that causes a bulge that is then also visible in the upper left quadrant on the obverse. So it would grade Poor Details Bent most likely. It is a bit frustrating because the coin was listed in a 2x2 and I asked the seller if the coin was bent and the reply was no. You would only detect the twerk outside the card so don't really know for sure the seller knew it was bent. Either way I can return it, but I'm good with it as a 1796 for that price as I don't own a 1796 DBLC.
