Are all the uncirculated 1971 Eisenhower dollars from the mint 40% silver? I am asking because I was dividing some of my fathers coins, and noticed that of the 25 uncirculated dollars he had, 5 of them had printing on the cardboard cards in the package that talked about the coin composition while 20 of them had no printing at all. I was assuming the mint must have j8ust run out of them at some point and used the plain cards but I wanted to make sure that was no difference in the coins as I was diving them. Thank-you for your help.

The only uncirculated silver Ikes are the ones bearing the S mint mark, all others are CuNi clad.

All of the 1971 Eisenhower dollars that have an "S" mint mark, from the San Francisco mint, are 40% silver. They were available as proof and uncirculated, were sold individually, and not part of a proof or mint set. The uncirculated ones were issued in a blue envelope, the proofs were in a brown box.

Right, the 25 I have are the S mint marks in the blue envelope. I was just curious if there was a reason that only 5 of the 25 had the printed card describing the coin while the other 20 had blank cards. Thank-you for your help.

Are they completely blank, that is, nothing at all to indicate that the cards might have come from the mint?

They could have been added post-mint to stiffen the envelope because the original cards were lost. I have never heard of the mint sending blank cards with the Eisenhower dollars. But there is a first time for everything!

Anyone else know?

I don't know about the cards - not sure why you would replace the original with a blank one?

But look closely at those "Blue" Ikes. They are very difficult to find in pristine condition. If memory serves, they were minted and then put into bags and transported across state lines to the packaging plant! So many, if not most Blue Ikes have nicks and knacks and bag marks. Smooth surfaces are a premium!
