Coins have been counterstamped for over 100 years with letters, names, numbers, symbols, etc. The Masonic emblem must have been part of some kind of promotion or activity.

lol not bad nod2003

Im almost sure the topic has been covered in one or two threads ..maybe in ID forum.Masonic pennies usually denote the lodge number and area.Large cents were used and small too I guess.Ive seen them in the UK as well on the old big pennies.Probably a worldwide thing.

Have yet to find one of these. But then don't search many rolls of cents. Do have a Kennedy half that has been stamped, but don't remember what. Is it only the cent's that this is happening to?

Probably not. I also have a metal disk or slug that also had been counterstamped with this emblem. Probably done to other denominations besides cents,

I really ought to become a more dedicated roll/box searcher. I'd *love* to find one of these couterstamped coins.

The only counterstamps I have are a Lincoln from about 30 years ago with an outline of the state of Alabama on it, and a quarter that has "R. THEIS" stamped on it.

Greg, when we're both past 50 posts, I hope I can talk you into trading one of those Masonic cents to me.

I have the set of 50 states. It was a given to me as a gift when I was about 13 years old. There was a post on this forum about those state cents!
