Recently I've been quite intrigued about the Eisenhower prototypes, and then today as I was sorting my Susan B's, similar comparisons became evident. First thing that got me to look further was the side reed views of 1979D and 1979S. The proof S coin actually demonstrated the copper color on edge, whereas the D coin was silver tone on edge. So off to the scale. The proof S came in at 8.2g, whereas the D was exactly 8.0! Excited I looked more closely with macro photos. The D showed abrasive finishing throughout both sides of the coin, similar to the Ike descriptions I've read, and many regions of the coin seemed "unfinished", as if a piece of artwork in progress (face around mouth, rustic moon, crude lettering, coin surface scratches front of face and bead behind head, and even a couple of punch marks indented lateral to tip of eagles tail, referred to in Ike as stamp to test metal hardness). So many other unexplained markings I see would be curious to hear your interpretations. I tried as many photo variations as possible. Please let me know your thoughts.

I'm going to give my 2 cents worth I'm far from an expert on this but I see die flow lines as well as what looks like a die crack moving through the stars. This is usually a sign of a well used die.

You are talking about two different dies from two different mints.
There are sure to be minor differences. The Denver coin appears
to have die polishing marks on the reverse and Die Deterioration
on the obverse. Denver is not known for its quality.
There is nothing there that can't be attributed to damage and wear.
The weight of both are within the +- tolerance for that dollar.

I agree. I see difference like these in my Ikes, where their larger size make it more obvious.
