After some thought, I give it another try.
But I will take the advice of CCF member beem and pre-purchase an admission ticket online.

I'd love to go but the fear factor is extremely high.

I think it's a pity they don't hold it in a smaller city.

Fear factor?

Fear of
early departure/late aeeival
a hellishly long plane journey
being incarcerated by ICE on entry
being mugged
being prosecuted for things I would never have though could be a crime, eg jaywalking
being overwhelmed by the number of people
unfriendly cops
not knowing what streets/locations to avoid
being shot
needing medical treatment

Ah, I now see you're in the UK. Yeah, NYC can be rough but no worse than the seedier parts of London.

It's also held in a nice part of NYC and at a very nice hotel, and they have/had a great deal on rooms at the hotel. Last time we had a 3 night stay for ~700.

Good luck, NumisEd, hope you find something amazing to buy! Let us know your thoughts afterward.

You think I could offer gold bullion in exchange if the coin is worth a decent amount of money?

Maybe. But I wouldn't depend on it. It's not a bullion-dealer friendly show. Dealers who aren't hedged may be leery of accepting it in this kind of market. Many of those dealers are based overseas, they could have issues bringing gold bullion home. May want to consider selling your bullion before the show and just bringing your cash proceeds. That would probably be my strategy.

Hi beem, the NYINC was OK. Not as well attended as last year though. No lines to get in and no jostling with crowds. There were also a few less dealers. For example, I didn't see Alan Berman who usually brings a lot of world coins to coin shows.
I did talk to Boardwalk for a while about their impression and which coin shows they typically attended and what they brought with them.
They thought FUN was the best in general. And just like me had a very low, dismissive opinion about Long Beach.
Due to the very high prices and the absence of certain coins, I didn't buy anything at NYINC.

Ouch, sorry you didn't find anything worth buying. Alan was at FUN, he wasn't far from me and looked like he had no problems selling.

You'll have to make the Summer FUN show. Yeah, it's warm out, but ironically, they kept it cold in the bourse area in January. I had to wear pants and long sleeves. :)
