Unusual 1942-P Jefferson Nickel, Either PF Or 6fs.

Just based on the lettering, perfect steps, and super deep reverse rim, I would say that this is a proof War Nickel. However, there appears to be a lamination flaw. That probably would have been caught when packing the coin. The reverse either has a bit of damage or a strike through—I tend to think it was Struck Through Grease, as mechanical damage would not have uniformly reached the fields against the rim. Dearborn Moderator United States 94636 Posts	Posted 12/28/2025 10:20 pm I agree with Errers. most likely a business strike, the rims are not square and flat and it looks like a Rim Fin at about K11 - possibly due to the Mis-aligned die. Rim fins are actually quite common on early Jefferson proofs due to the high pressure strikes. It might indeed be a business strike nickel, although I challenge you to find one with steps that perfect. There is also the possibility that it's a proof die retired to business strike service. I put it next to a mint state War Nickel, and of course they look similar. For the time being, I think this coin goes into a flip for re-evaluation later.
