The fact that you can see the letter U showing through makes me believe that it's not a die break.

Can you give us a clear full coin shot of the obverse and reverse?

Looks like the edge of a grinder wheel, or maybe a file crated this gouge on the quarter. But the grind marks seem to be going the wrong direction for a wheel grinder.

I don't believe it is a Die break anymore because I can see the U in between the damage part. Might be a strike error, I dont think it is a Cud. Here is the coin pictures. hope this can help with identifying the coin error. Thank you.

Thank you for the extra pics. It would appear to be damage, possibly from a pair of tin snips.

AH!! ok, now that we can see the reverse, I would say that this quarter was pinched in a needle nose type vise grip pliers (or something similar)

And this is why we ask for full coin images of both sides.
