Good morning everyone,

I previously set this penny away years ago and just looked at it again last night. It is 1940s, but I can't make out the last number. I don't know if it is some kind of error, it doesn't look like a 1 or a 4 that was cut off and if it's a 7 it's misplaced. Some kind of die error or secondary damage? I have looked for info on it, but can't find anything about it. If anyone knows what this is, please let me know
Thank you.

It's a damaged coin where the final date digit has taken a hit that displaced the metal.

Agree with nickelsearcher. May have been caused by a rotary coin insert device like an old school candy machine or parking meter.

I agree. Just PMD. Not an error.

There is no way that could happen when the coin was
struck so that means it is damage of some sort.
