I heard about these in another thread and I was like "hey don't I have one of those?" so I went through all my pre 60 jeffs and found what I think to be one. Can anyone explain to me what these are and if I have one? Oh and are they worth anything?

Cole317:

Based on your photo, I would say your coin is a 1959p Black Beauty- wheezydog will probably be along shortly and definitely let you know for sure like he did on mine.

Here is some information I found on how these were made.
Whether these are worth the money these guy's are asking for , I don't know- I just posted this as a point of info, that's
all.

This does look like one. They are improperly annealed planchets. Go to https://www.fredweinberg.com and he has some in his inventory for sale. They are in the misc error types. His certified ms64 is $125.

Other than the "darker" color, is there any other way to confirm this coin being authentic. I mean for a "burnt or fried" planchet, I guess I answered my own question......
