Got my Batman gold coin delivered by UPS this morning. Looks good. I'd post a picture, but I still haven't figured out how to do that, but if you're wondering you can go to the mint site. It looks pretty much like the one pictured there. Batman goes to join Superman in the "Fortress of Solitude" tomorrow (i.e. safe deposit box at the bank).

Just crop and upload, howell1018. Bobby's new image optimizer takes care of all the heavy lifting for you.

1/2 oz gold for $3630 is quite a mark up.

$3,630 IS quite a markup, but I only paid $3,510, so I'm ahead of the game. I actually thought I had bought this coin upon release when it was much less, but something got fouled up and I didn't discover the problem until a month or so later and had to bite the bullet...again. I already had the Superman coin in hand, and have already paid for Wonder Woman (yes, I'm certain), and with the collector's mentality I had to strive for completeness.

not much interested in this type of coin designs, but I'm glad that you were able to get it to keep your collection 'complete'.

Is it appropriate to call these coins?

I thought the correct term was "medal"

Well the Mint advertises them as "Coins" and they do have the dollar value on them ($50).

The gold issues are coins and are legal tender by law—the Mint is pretty much allowed to make any gold coin they want in the allowed denominations.

The silver issues are medals because no law allows them to be made as legal tender. Additional legislation is required.
