2023-D Kennedy Half Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse / DDO ?

CoinHunterCait New Member United States 11 Posts	Posted 01/20/2026 9:16 pm Hi All, I just recently started getting back into looking for coin errors and picked up a few rolls of half dollars from my bank to look through. As I was looking I noticed doubling on several different areas of the 2023-D half dollars. The areas I saw that appeared to have doubling were the motto, mint mark, letters in "Liberty", the date, portions of the top of Kennedy's hair and also the ear. There doesn't seem to be a verified DDO for the 2023-D. I attached some photos to the post and I can take more if needed. I was hoping to get some input on what everyone thinks. I appreciate any help, advice, and input on if you think this is a DDO error. Report this Post to the Staff

I think that most of the doubling you're seeing is light induced doubling, along with Die Deterioration Doubling, and maybe some Machine Doubling. Errers and Varietys. Report this Post to the Staff

I posted it in another community and got like 3 different determinations which was confusing me further lol I figured I'd take some pics and post it here. As far as Die Deterioration goes, is it the dramatic splits between the letters that points to this? Like on the E in "WE" and the N in "IN"? Report this Post to the Staff

Yes - if the letters/numbers have the lines/splits going right through the middle of them instead of just the ends having the "notches". This DDD is also seen a lot on the Shield Cents. One important thing to note is that all the apparent doubling is all trending towards the rim (outwards from the center) True doubling will not do this. Collecting since 1972.
