Copper can change many colours, depending on the environment
it has been exposed to. I have seen copper change to that colour
when in contact with household cleaners.

Agree with JimmyD. I've seen many similar from many different years and mints. Copper is a curious metal.

Agreed, the copper can go from green to gold(ish) to red to brown
