I'll say MS-65. I'm hardly seeing any nicks.

At first glance I thought 64. Is that a die chip on the buffalo's upper leg?

Thanks Marv65.. There is a small area on the upper rear leg but I think light reflection makes it look like a die chip. This particular nickel has a lot of detail that I don't see in others.

The 1938-D Buff was readily available in mint bag and roll lots until the D/D and D/S variety hunt made the bags disappear. The volume of high grade coins makes MS-66 the default grade for the date, although a 1938-D MS-66 doesn't look like an MS-66 for any other date.

IMHO, this coin is MS-66.

i think the light glare is hiding some fine marks on both sides. in the hair above the grade, a few in the neck. on the reverse quite a few on the front shoulder and maybe the rear quarter panel.

readily available in MS66 I dont think this one makes it
