I'd appreciate some opinions on date. I think 1929 D.

Hard to tell from pics for me. I have some barely readable Buffalo dates in my set. I have the best luck holding them sideways and tilting at different angles. You'd be surprised how differently the light bounces and reveals details. Try that.

It's definitely Obverse Design Variety 007, and the third digit is definitely a "2." That limits the date to 1926-D, 1927-D, 1928-D, or 1929-D. The mint mark won't help, because all four years used the first Denver mint mark.

We can rule out the "7." I don't think it is a "6," because the gap between the "2" and "6" is curved only on the left side (at the "2,") and this appears to be curved in both directions.

The bottom oval of the "8" is curved vertically on 1928, and the bottom inside loop of the "9" looks a bit like a sideways theatre tragedy mask on 1929. They can be tough to distinguish on a heavily circulated coin. Here's that portion of the date on your coin:
