I have a few holes that will probably never be filled, like anything at $500 or above. I guess the question could just be, what is the most you're will to, or capable of, paying for a single coin.
Like most Cent collectors, a 1909-S VDB. I would never be satisfied with a PO-01, and even at that barely identifiable condition, the price would fill a half dozen other holes with decent specimens, and is more than the cap I mentioned.
1922 Plain Cent. Not only is the price out of reach, but it is just a mint error, and I'm not much into error coins. I wish these two holes did not exist in my albums. Even the CAPS has them.
In my Franklin album, I'll probably never fill the Proof 1950 hole. To get under my self-imposed price limit, it would have to be below PR64. I want proofs closer to perfection.
If I ever get all the other holes filled, I'll probably work on upgrades to the already-filled holes going forward, rather than blow a lot of money on low-grade specimens.
