I decided to hunt $50 in dimes this week. Unless I am mistaken, this is a 1970 dime with the reverse of 1968. Two deep grooves in the flame.

Awesome! =)

Lacking any real knowledge about Roosevelt dimes, are the transitional reverse dimes common, or is this genuinely a lucky find comparable to a WAM/CAM cent?

I currently have it soaking in some hot water to see if that crud dissolves. Acetone is next.

From my experience, they're somewhat common. I've found quite a few from circulation.

very nice find, but a whole lot of dimes to go through.

Yeah, 500 dimes to find two keepers plus a handful of recent MS coins to tuck away in a roll. Dimes are so sparse with cherrypicking—I almost always find a few modern DDRs with 10 rolls of nickels. But it's nice to have the occasional change of pace.
