I know it's not the right forum, but depending on rarity, I'd pay around 5-10% of the value with damage like that (which I've done for colonials and hammereds for which I wouldn't/couldn't buy at full problem-free sticker price).

I've never seen one before - very neat example.

Shame about the damage. First time I've seen one of these.

Very cool, unfortunate damage but I arguably think that it's better than if the damage was on the obverse. Still cool!

Tough coin for sure! Your example is the rounded bust with 5 leaves on the reverse, which is the most "common" for this issue. Very popular coin as a transitional issue extending the series by a year and very collectible as part of the 12 piece pattern set of cents from 1858 (technically 11 patterns and the standard proof 1858 small letters Flying Eagle). Ive been fortunate to have owned a few of these over the years including my current PF64CAM.
It's really tough to put a value on given the wear and the damage. $200 seems okay to me though, you won't find another in that price range.

Nice coin, even with the reverse damage.
Errers and Varietys.

Thanks for sharing. I think $200 is a bargain even with the reverse damage. Rick Snow has some 1858 patterns on his website in the $3600 to $3800 range. They are MS grades. Yours is G6 or low VG in my opinion.

Quote: what thread do you want it in Nickelsearcher? I'll move it . This current thread is just fine for Mikev50 1858 pattern IHC. I was addressing my comment to @ RedRaider who spoke about his PR64CAM example. That's the coin I want to see in a separate thread.
