I found this roll hunting and was wondering what may have caused it. I have not seen anything quite like this on another Sacagawea dollar or other denomination. Thoughts and opinions welcome!

Thank you!

Early Sacagawea dollars were sold mounted to many, many things. It's possible your coin has be removed from a belt buckle, necklace, pocket knife or some other bezel.

I believe that is the correct assessment. I could be wrong though.

I am not entirely convinced that it was put into a bezel because it does still appear to have luster in the incuse areas. I would also expect it to be damaged on the reverse as well.

Some sort of goofy Rim Fin issue might be a possibility, but if that were the case I would not expect it to have incuse areas below the rim level which one could get their fingernail into. Which this does have.

Thank you!
