Wouldn't the thinnest part of the rim be opposite the fastest part of the rim. Could it be the collar did not fully in gage.

I wonder if this could be either Rim-Restricted Design Doubling or die wear leading to development of a Ridge Ring. The reason I wonder about the rim-restricted doubling is that I see a faint something on the rim directly above some of the letters of LIBERTY, especially above the "BERT." I have no idea if that something is just circulation noise or remnants of that kind of Machine Doubling. This is more of just tossing something out for discussion than having any confidence here. It's interesting!

I suspect we're looking at a tilted die error (vertical misalignment) in addition to the horizontal misalignment. Die tilt would account for the weak/absent design rim on the right along with the fadeout of the reeding. The reverse shows significant Machine Doubling.

I've been trying to learn more about coin striking errors, one of my weakest areas. I've looked at your coin 3 or 4 times today, as it has bothered me.... I think I6609 may be onto something, in my mind anyway (crazy place, by the way ). Quote: Wouldn't the thinnest part of the rim be opposite the fastest part of the rim. Could it be the collar did not fully in gage. To me, it looks like a very moderate "uncentered broadstrike", in my extremely novice experience. This would be a good one to bring Mike in to if someone would. Red arrows pointing to the thick areas and yellow pointing to the thin areas, that both oppose each other. From Error-Ref "When a planchet is poorly centered and then struck out of collar". Maybe the out of collar part leads to the difference in reads being struck up? Another link I ran across, while searching. Just thought it odd, the date. I took so long with getting mine together that Mike already weighed in.
