It was a nice coin before getting soldered and drilled. Shield lines are visible in there under the solder. A perfunctory acetone soak had no effect except making the solder shinier. I might work it over with a torch to see if it will come off.

Yikes! Heat and gravity so it flows towards the edge might work. Might. Don't see it getting ny worse.

I need to figure out a way to hold it while heating, as my tongs would definitely scratch it. Of course, I don't have much to lose anyway.

Be careful here. If that's amalgamated Mercury, you don't want to heat it. Lots of coins were treated that way to make costume jewelry in the late 19th Century.

could be mercury, but I'm leaning towards solder, However lets err on the safe side.

cut a raw potato in half, scoop out some of the insides of one side, put the halves back together, wrap in foil and then bake it OUTSIDE to cook the potato - the mercury (if that is wha tis is) will evaporate onto the flesh and leave the copper behind.

(I do this all the time after a day of panning for placer gold)
