1896 S Barber Dime For Evaluation

Here is the start of a second batch of coins. As I said in other posts, I'm in the process of assessing a neighbor's collection that he inherited from his father. All coins are raw as this was assembled back in the 1960s or so. My photo set up isn't great, especially for shiny, uncirculated coins so these are the best that I can do.

I'm interested in opinions from the hive here as to grade as well as any potential issues which might result in a details designation should he send them in for slabbing. Thx!

I say it has circulated to the F/VF range. The surfaces look washed out, dull and lifeless. I can't say for sure but perhaps from an old cleaning?

IMO the crisscross of scratches on the reverse would likely result in a Details - Graffiti ruling.

the coin would net to F details (scratched)

slabbing should not be considered. not enough value here

These 3 scratched and or gashed semi key dates sold recently for near full retail all 3 are straight graded. images courtesy of Great collections
#1 1896 s F-15 reverse scratch (PCGS cover coin) sold $200+
#2 1896 O VF-20 scratches on date sold $400+
#3 1895 P gash on forehead current bid $300+
These 1894 95 96 97 branch mints have combined pops in the dozens F-VF this one's a shoe in for ANACS imo $350+ coin straight graded $225 details grade.
Just my method not anyone's else but I won't buy any key or semi-key Barber dime any where near wholesale,auction,retail unless it's in a TPG holder it has saved me hundreds $$$ in Tylenol and aspirin bills.
