My poor old Canon SD700IS finally bit the dust tonight. It's had a very rough life! The first day I got it I was taking some pictures of a house and dropped in right on the drive-way. Natually, it landed DIRECTLY on the extended lens and it would no longer work. Canon did fix it for me, I was surprized! A year later, I got the brilliant idea to take it with me on some Michigan sand dunes. It got sand in it (DUH) and the lens would no longer retract.....once again, Canon fixed it for me. Now, just a few days ago I was taking pictures at my daughter's graduation and.....I dropped it AGAIN, right on the extended lens onto a hard floor. AAAAARRRRGGGGGG I will never understand why this thing will ALWAYS land right on the extended lens. After that, it was making a crunching sound when ever the lens moved in or out. Well, tonight it finally decided not to go back in. OK, now the good news... I bought one of these tonight with an extended 3 year damange/cover-all warranty.....I wise idea for me! http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...odelid=17626

Quote: Might I suggest one of These I had to get 2 cameras. When I bought the Sony H2 for the zoom and good coin pics by DH wasn't happy since its bulky to carry along so I bought him a pocket camera that we use on a regular basis which keeps my H2 safe and sound.

Ooh. Consumer reports rates that camera pretty high. How is the macro feature?

GO >>> I have one, but it interferes with my macro work so I take it off.....then I forget to put it back on. I think I'll make it a point to use it more often.

I tell everyone after I get it and do some testing. If it's as good as my SD700IS, I'll be pleased. From my research, it looks like I should be fine.

Got the cam just minutes ago and did a test shot. I'm somewhat disappointed so far. With my old cam I could use up to 4X zoom in macro mode, this one will not allow it. That means I have to greatly improve my lighting setup because I have to put the cam too close to the subject. I can only go up to 2 cm and use NO ZOOM otherwise it will not focus. If any sort of zoom is used, you have to be 12 inches away....dumb! Also, for some odd reason, Canon took away the current zoom level from the display, leaving it all guess work. I seriously debating getting my SD700IS repaired after this macro experience.....but more play time is required.
