Interesting. My guess is PMD, but I could be wrong. I just don't see how that can happen, when the coin was struck.

Did something get in there when it was struck? Looks clean.

Is it raised or incuse?
Just from the pictures, it looks incuse, but shadows in coin images can be deceptive. Based on the way it seems to jump from the torch to the leaf without touching the fields, I would guess that it's surface damage. Some coin wrapping machines leave that kind of circular damage in the center—I believe it's often a home wrapping machine more than big commercial machines. How did you get the coin? Was it in a machine wrapped roll?

No it's not raised. I tried to get it to show that its punched in. Yellow pic is probably the best one that shows going in.

Very interesting. I believe it is PMD, someone was playing with a punch.

Post-strike damage I'm thinking.

Yes it was in a wrapped roll from the bank.
If its from a punch and hammer. I think it should show on the obverse? It looks normal like no warping or coning. IDK. I'm just guessing. Interesting to me.

Quote: I think it should show on the obverse Maybe it was punched on something soft to distribute the force, like leather. Whatever it is, I am not spending it. It is an interesting keeper.

PMD, you can see warping on the obverse in the middle.

I think that it DOES show up on the obverse - lust left of the ear and the bottom arc shows, which I think corresponds with the deepest part of the circle on the reverse at the top.

Quote: PMD, you can see warping on the obverse in the middle. . You can see it, if you look carefully. That confirms it being PMD. If it was a true Struck Through error, there wouldn't be warping or bulging on the other side. There also wouldn't be displaced metal.

I do see it now! It is right on near the connection with the ear lobes. So subtle. Thank you for all your inputs! I thought it was something special. Spender. Seriously people got nothing better to do...still wonder why punch a ring?
