I was at a used book store recently and I came across some Red Books that were published in the early 60's. Is there any value in these?

That's what reminded me of it...I saw that auction. I think they were going for about $5 each.

Are old Guide Books (aka Red Books) collectible?

In a word: YES!

In fact, Whitman has just published a book on collecting them, along with varieties, special editions, authorized editions and many other items.

I just received one yesterday that I bought on ebay,1962 in like new condition (even though it was advertised as new) and I paid $6.49. In the most recent Red Book that I have it lists the 1962 in new condition for $8.00. I also find myself buying them when I see them at yard sales and thrift stores as long as they are in really good shape and priced right.

John:
Good luck, I have heard stories!

One collector told me about a flea market that he attended, years ago.

To make a long story short:
At the bottom of a big box of books he managed to pull the first 10 or so Red Book editions, purchased for the massive sum of $1 each!

Ya never know.

Thanks for the nice comment.

And, yes that is my book, Whitman just published it a month ago.
There is also a collectible hard cover available (#250 pieces).

Other books? No, this is my first.
But, I have written many articles for Lost Treasure and Western & Eastern Treasures.

Hopefully, if this one does well, I may be able to do another.

TreasHunt, that's cool! I'm gonna run down to that store this afternoon and see if those books are still there.

OK, I just got back. Ya snooze ya lose. Those books were gone. I think there were two from 1964 and one from 1962, if I am remembering correctly. But they were asking about as much as one would pay on ebay! Not really what I would call a bargain, especially at a half priced book store.

Don't give up!

I have been in old book stores where the prices were virtually stupid.

And others, where the prices were great!
