Good morning gentlemen , I've come to s definative crossroads with my half dollars. Ive an extensive collection now, seateds, barbers, walkers, frankies, and a few silver kennedies , a bust as well.Along with those are what got me started , about a dozen older comms.Lexington, stone mountain, pilgrim etc. One thing they have in commen is amazing condition , many of them mirror like, beautiful coins. My problem is this , up to now I've kept them in airtites , probably the best thing to do. However its a hassle to view any one given coin looking through a boxfull of airtites so I got myself a Dansco for halves.I already have one for dimes and I like it a lot.
My question is this , probably been asked a million times , will storing these beautiful mirror like coins in a Dansco in any way , even possibly , detract or affect their appearance ?

wet: It is possible, over a long period of time, for the coins to tone.
More important:
BE CAREFUL!
The plastic slides may cause slight scratch marks to the surfaces of the coins as you slide them (the slides)in and out. What to do? Push the piece further into the slot, so that the front slide does not touch the coin.
Good luck.

Unless you put your coins in a vacuum all coins will tone to some degree over time. When you place a coin in a Airtites and close it, it still has air in it and everything that is the air at that time. Since Airtites are, I believe, a new product and so no one knows what the long time effect will be with them!

A good point Bill , I want to put them all in the book but would be sorry to see them lose the mirror finish on such old classics.

wet they will not lose the mirror finish. toning may change the color, but the mirror finish is on the surface. A harsh cleaning, or several dips will probably remove or damage the mirror finish.
however, a toned proof can be a thing of beauty.

"Not on my watch" While I agree a toned coin is nice to see , I dont want these taking on any rainbow features if I can help it. Of course id never dream of cleaning or even touching them , I guess if they kept the mirror finish this long a few decades in my Dansco aint going to hurt'em. This is going to leave me with a boatload of half dollar air tites used once just this year.Probably a couple dozen morgan size too as I got the silver dollar dansco along with the half dollar one. Thanks Treashunt
