I can understand that the lines in the field are from a fresh polishing or clash removal that created fine scratches. But why aren't the horizontal lines through the toning on the neck considered cleaning or wiping? Were they produced by a Mint production process of some kind?

Interesting example. Would want to examine this one in-hand.

The lines on the field are polishing lines.
Now, the lines on the neck are from some kind of rubbing that removed some toning. IMO

but if you zoom in on the photo, you'll see that those "lines" are also on the left and right fields. That's how I'm seeing it.

if you look at high MS Mercs in the 40's you are going to see heavy die polishing. PCGS is not going to grade one at 67+ if those were scratches or anything to do with a cleaning.

So then, you're saying you actually believe this was done by polishing?

Ok, thanks for the analysis, guys. I wasn't yet familiar with die polishing lines inside the bust itself.

I'm seeing light parallel lines throughout the obverse (forehead, date, RTY, under the chin, etc) which is making me wonder if these could be roller lines.
