Picked up a couple hundred dollars face value of nickel rolls
last week from the bank. Why I did that now is beyond me :)
Was just curious to see what I may find. Not too bad. Some finds but anyway, Was filling a hole and noticed one 56-D. The MM is very low.
Sitting right on the top of the side step/porch of Monti. Was just wondering if that was a normal position for the MM on that yr. I have a few others and the MM is higher up.

If they're like cents, the MM was manually placed before something like 1996 - the position varies. As long as it's in the righ general area, it's within tolerance. Although a photo would help.

, Lincoln Cents were hand punched until 1990 so the MM will vary in location. If it's anywhere near where it should be it's considered normal,i guess it's the same for nickels.

They are like cents, and as long as the mintmark is to the right of the building and above the base, it's in the right position. The exact position is negligible.

Thanks all. After I posted I realized that the MM was hand applied.
It's diff. though anyway. It's like it is sitting right on the base
with it's back right up against the wall. Has a longer than normal
upper tail so it makes it snug against the wall.
