1946 Hennings Nickel? - Coin Community Forum

mrwhatisit Pillar of the Community United States 2953 Posts	Posted Yesterday 8:11 pm Can't be a Henning nickel as it clearly has a Denver mintmark, and all known Henning counterfeits have no mintmarks, even though 1946 is one of the known dates. I would take this nickel to a professional jeweler to have it XRFed to confirm composition. Report this Post to the Staff
MisterT Pillar of the Community United States 2003 Posts	Posted Yesterday 8:13 pm While your coin does have the mushy and grainy look of a Henning and considering that 1946 is a known Henning date I can see why you are curious. However there are no known Henning's with a mint mark and your coin is a 1946D, so no it is not a Henning. Report this Post to the Staff

But it is now known that is NOT the case. This one being a 46-D cannot be a Henning. There are good links on this forum to studying them, and now error-ref.com also has a great section on them. MisterT Pillar of the Community United States 2003 Posts	Posted Today 24M ago @Sbglobal11, While we have determined that your 1946D nickel is not a Henning, I would advise you to closely check the D mintmark. There exists a rare OMM variety for this date which is listed as a D over inverted D and I cannot discern from your picture. It looks like the picture below. Report this Post to the Staff
