I got the idea from back in the Bicentenial year. Some Post Offices were opened so that people could get a July 4 1996 postmark on their letters. Many people, myself included, used the opportunity to put a stamp on a newly released 2 Dollar Bill and had it hand cancelled with that date.

Pretty cool that you had all the relevant stamps for the Postmark.

Ah! One of the few advantages of being a hoarder.

The Thomas Jefferson stamp was from the "Figures of the American Revolution" sheet of "forever stamps" issued earlier this year. The "Signing of the Declaration of Independence" stamp set was issued for 1976 and I had several sheets on hand.
The Bill was also from my collection. From a chart I have the serial number indicates it was printed in March or April of 1976. I thought that was appropriate.
