just looked it up, it says aluminum. If anyone has any other info such as mintage or anything additional that would be great.

not aluminum! Can tell by looking at it. I also saw one was made in aluminum, but I also saw one listed in brass.

The flower emblem on it is familier , a good paragraph or two could be put down just on that. It means something , it was emblazoned on the bow of Japans biggest ever warship (sank without note)

The flower is the Mum, or the imperial Japanese crest. On every WWII ship, there was a huge one of these on the bow, and made a easy identifier for the ship (because it was shiny!)

This is the one listed in the Krause catalogues as KM/Y# 55, made of bronze. Mintage 113 million, CV $1.50 in Unc, 25¢ in VF. It's a one-year-type (meaning this coin was only issued in this one year, 1938). Here's the World Coin Gallery page for this coin.

Don't know, sorry. Krause and NumisMaster just call it a "bird".

The flower is a Mon not a Mum!
"The Imperial Seal of Japan is a mon or crest used by members of the Japanese Imperial family. Under the Meiji Constitution, no one was permitted to use the Imperial Seal except the Emperor of Japan, who used a 16 petal chrysanthemum with sixteen tips of another row of petals showing behind the first row. So each member of the Imperial family used a slightly modified version of the seal."

The Japanese catalog calls this coin "Crow 1 sen".
