I don't have anything that would come close to that. Fantastic note!

I love this note so much that I will let it lapse into expiration. It's the only UNC French Franc that I have. It's not that rare, that expensive, etc, but I just like it (and the paper! The French printed their money on some kind of thin, ribbon-like paper!)

I like that note alot...can you tell us a little on it's history? Gustave Effiel was the designer/builder of the tower I presume?
Very cool note... Thank you!

Well, there's not much history behind it, other than it's from the last series of French Francs before the Euro changeover. The last series had all (like other French banknote series) great thinkers. On the 50 was the author of the Little Prince, Expuery; 100 was the painter Cezanne; 200 was Eiffel; 500 was Marie and Pierre Curie. I remember somewhere that this last series was designed by Roger Pfund, who was a Finn... have to check back on that. And yes, Eiffel designed the tower, so it's on the back. I think all French Banknotes have the reverse related to the obverse. Before that, both sides had the same person's portrait as an anti-counterfeiting technique (like the number in the top left corner of Euro notes). Here's pics of the last series before this modern one. https://goccf.com/t/46538

My best note is whatever I find at face value. I sure can't buy any certified. Nice notes displayed.

Oh yeah, daviscfad, I always wanted to ask you this. So this is a national note, as in, predecessor to Federal Reserve bank notes. Why were these notes issued? (Instead of US notes)

daviscfad....
Nice Nat Bank Note! The Wikipedia info is correct....one thing I did not see was that John Sherman was the main driving force for Nat Bank Notes back in 1861. He served in Congress from 1854 and he took Salmon P. Chase's seat in theSenate when Pres. Lincoln named Chase as the Sec of the Treasury.
The Feb 25th 1863 "LoanBill" better known as the National Banking Act passed Congress. Under the provisions of the Act, all banks granted chartes by the Nat Government were allowed to deposit gov bonds with the Treasuer of the USA. There were allowed to issue notes in the amount of 90% of the par value of the bonds.
Here is one of the 5 or 6 I have in my collection as well...love em but they tend to get very expensive in jigher grades...

I love that remainder. The central vignett is also on the $3 Tallahassee Railroad Note. I think it is a great vignette and like it with the red/orange color.
Thanks for sharing that with us!

Wow those are some cool notes. I especially like the 3 dollar Maine note being a Mainer myself. I wasn't even aware that it existed. I don't have anything quite that old but I do have a 1934 A 10 dollar star note in decent shape with the first three numbers of the serial being zeros. I'll try to get scans up if anyone is interested in looking at it.
