I use a flatbed scanner and am a new member interested to upload some coin images, tried my first coin scan on a German 1907 Funf Mark w/Wilhelm II. Tried all settings it still produces a grey picture very little detail, unlike the pictures I see here. Is it Contrast or some other setting? Tried the same on a US 1900S Morgan and it came out ok. Would appreciate your comments, Thanks!

How good a pic you get from a scanner depends in part on the scanner, and in part on the coin itself. Some scanners just don't work well with coins, and some coins just don't scan well no matter how good your scanner usually is.

I scan at 600dpi then resize to about 525 x 525 pics. This gives me a file size about 80-90 kb.

Why don't you upload a pic so we can see what you are getting?

The better looking pics on the forum are usually taken with cameras. Try this post to get you started:

If you don't want to go that route, maybe try changing the scanner background with a piece of black paper and scanning at the highest quality, then reduce the picture size.

Thanks! I took the route at 600 resolution then resized, also set the contrast way down, that took out the grey/dim part, and later enhanced back up.
situation solved, Thanks again!
