This is another coin I purchased about a month ago. I am wondering what grade it would be and also any clues as to why the date is so poor when the rest of it is not too bad.
Thanks
Bryan

I would grade this at F-15, looks like worn a die by the date.
Rest in Peace

Flip the coin over and you'll see the strike is weak on both sides, see "S OF" on reverse.

Yes I noticed that. I wonder what caused that? Is it common to have a weak strike on both sides of coin? Maybe some walking around just rubbing that part of the coin.

The planchet could have been a touch thin in that area.

I agree it's VF and it may be a bit corroded.

Definitly a VF would be EF if date werent worn. And I don't think it was the die, both sides have equal wear.

Probably the die was not what I call (balanced). That is, the the dies pressed
the planchet harder on one side than the other. This gives you good form on one
side and a weak form on the other. This is clearly indicated by the stars and date on this coin. I'm pretty sure. I was a tool & die maker for 35 years.
