G'day, my dictionary defines "lug", amongst many disparate meanings, as follows -
"... a wooden box for transporting fruit or vegetables."

and see this obituary:
"Grace I. Fouch Died November 15, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Grace I. Fouch, 101, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, ... Grace was born May 28, 1904, in Traverse City, to Milton and Catherine (VonHolt) Gore.
With her late husband, Clifford, Grace had worked the family cherry farm for many years. ...
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; ...; and three brothers, Leslie, Russell and Henry Gore. ..."

So I'll guess this is a token which might be given to a cherry-picker each time he handed a box or "lug" of fruit. At the end of the day, she/he would hope to exchange the tokens for cash.

That is really cool.
I live in Traverse City and my uncle owns a cherry farm. I should ask him about it.
