Would appreciate comments on grade level and rarity or commonality for this 1945 Ram edition Shilling, Does it have silver content? It has completely tarnished, or is that toning?
(note the difference in picture size was caused by a different scanner setting, its the same coin) Big thanks

Thought you were onto something there, a 1945 shilling is worth around $200,000. Your 1944S shilling however is worth around $5. From the pictures I would grade it around Vf. It has a mintage of 8 million and is 50% silver. It was minted at the San Francisco mint in the US.

Thanks! Sorry about the year, was handling a 1945 Philippine coin at the time, although great to learn too about the 1945 year value vs 1944.

Why is the 1945 shilling so expensive?
Thanks again

Just another note, I have a florin from 1944. I suppose it's SF instead of Sydney?

That's correct WD1040 Florins minted between 1942 and 1944 were minted in San Fransisco and Melbourne so they either of an S mm or nothing. Same with the Shilling for those years.

It was a pattern only coin. None were issued for circulation.
