Of course I know this isn't a hearing aid in Eisenhowers ear, but it looks so strange compared to the other ones I have here. Is this an error or a bag mark of some kind. I tried to get a good close up for you to see. Thanks for looking!! Alice

Thanks for taking a look at it Fred. Die chips. Hmmm, don't know where they're supposed to be, but I guess not in his ear poor guy! Your coins with names must be something else!!! I'm using my imagination to guess what they look like! LOL Thanks again. Alice

Hi Alice

I like Fred and all ,but I'm not sure I want to be him ?

He lives in the desert ,, oh wait I live in the desert ,, He likes Morgan dollars ,, Ummm, I kinda like Morgan dollars !!,, Umm, Oh Ya, He's not much into error coins Ya thats it , He dont like errors ,,I do whew had me worried there for a minute !!

Alice coins are not supposed to have die chips, but sometimes the die does chip away and leaves small sometimes large places where the coin metal has flowed during sriking making a small bump or combination of bumps where they should not be .

Hi Rick!! Hey, two out of three ain't bad, so they say! Ok, I've changed my mind about his ear. After looking at the close-up, rather than a hearing aid, it looks more like his teeth sticking out of the ear canal!!! LOL Soooooo would this be considered an error or have a VAM #? LOL LOL OR, is it just a piece of art to ponder on like the Mona Lisa. Thanks for looking! Alice

Hi Alice

They are aconsidered a minor error ,, I'm not sure if your familiar with the BIE lincoln errors or not , but they are also an example of a die chip error .

Die chips although not as common as say Machine Doubling are pretty common .

Hi Rick, I never heard of BIE before, but looked and there are two up for bid on ebay. Looking at yours, the I is larger than the ones they have for sale. There must be a few of them around to give it a name. I wonder why the die chip landed in exactly the same place on so many pennys. Nice lincoln by the way! I may just keep this Ike. Who knows, there may be more around and eventually call it the Eisenhower ear error!!! :) Alice

Hi Alice

In 2 more posts you will have 50 posts and be able to trade on the forum ,, send me a postal address by email and I will will send you a BIE error for your very own on your 50th post !!

There used to be a big BIE following until this chip showed up on so many coins and so many years of cents that today a few die hard followers still collect them ,, just because they are cool !!

Hi Rick, OMG, fell asleep on the couch watching the news!! LOL What a nice offer!!! Didn't know 50 would get me a present!! You don't have to send me a thing. Your greatest gift is answering my questions!!! I LOVE learning!! I may never find a use for this knowledge, but who knows!! I did put some new rolls of 50's pennies away, (back in the 60's). Stopped in a coin shop to buy some holders for my dimes and quarters and the man sold me pennies! When I find them someday, LOL, I might luck out, and they may have die errors too :) Thanks again, Alice

Hi Alice! Sure do like your attitude and enthusiasm! My first ever roll purchase was back in the 60's as well. I have bought, sold and traded ever since and have, as of 2002, gone world wide with my collecting! Just sent a 2006 die break and missing die to Rick to post a close up photo here on the forum. You will have to look for it when he gets it! I find it rewarding to FINALLY find something out of the ordinary when searching a few rolls!

Hey Metalman, I have found several dimes similar to the pic you posted above. They're pretty neat. By the way could you post a pic of your Frankenstein Lincoln and a couple of others that you named? You caught my curiosity when you mentioned those. I haven't been able to post smilies. I must be doing something wrong.

What I meant to say was that I have found several dimes (Roosevelt) having the same chin problem as the Lincoln pic above.
