I voted "a local dealer" because the only modern coins I've actually bought were at a coin show. The other modern coins I obtain are from circulation or from searching rolls.

The only modern ones I have came from the US mint or the local bank , Post office guy orders me rolls too which probably wont last long but is sweet while it does.

Shovel78 , in something like 500 transactions I've never lost a coin yet.Check the sellers feedback , it always tells its story.
If its an auction with no feedback system , contact the seller and ask about insurance. If they decline to insure you really dont want to be dealing with them,i cant think why its a problem if you pay the insurance fee.

Most of " my collection " is from many places, used E-bay for years, some great local shops, word of mouth, the U S Mint, other mail catalog companies, the FORUM, and other's.This week I bought some coins from 2-member's and was pleasantly pleased, the service, and as described coins, and the very fast shipping, would highly recommend to all.
I have been very lucky in all except a bad apple or two from E-bay, which I have not lost a cent, Learned alot, the safest, the Mint, CCF, local shops and shows, going to one tomorrow, here on Long Island, there are not many shows however, this show, you get to know most vendors after a few years and most are very nice people, good luck to all, Mike

I don't buy them because I don't collect them. If I can't get coins from change I don't want them.

I was amazed that there was no separate item for coin shows. Except from change the only place I aquire any coins at all is from coin shows. I've been to several dealers in the area and just to expensive. ebay too is off the wall with most prices. Just can't beat coin shows as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know about the coin show statement. I just returned from my local coin show where a dealer had the 2009 Lincoln rolls for $7 a roll! As I posted on another reply-Madness !
