Nearly 3 billion of each were minted. In my fathers collection, I've found two rolls of uncirculated 71's...and 6 rolls of uncirculated 72's. All coins except the outside two in each roll appear to have never been touched. The outside two are showing some "browning".

My question is...Why 71 and 72?

As a newbie here, I'm entitled to ask uninformed questions such as this one...I read it somewhere in the rulebook before I joined.

The rules also state that I have at least 9 more uninformed questions left to ask before any of you are allowed to tell me to "f-off"...or "look it up yourself dumbs--t!"...

I bow to your wisdom m'lords and m'ladies...

I've posed a question something like that before, although my cents in question were from circulation. Seems like I find a lot of early 70s cents with lots of luster still on them. I started saving them but they became too many. Now I just keep them in MS and put the rest in my ever growing copper cents box (subject of another post "What's in your stash?"
By the way newbie and there are no stupid questions, or almost none.

Nothing numismatically special about them. Perhaps the dates were of something important to your father. Some people just buy and save rolls at random.

Some folks get several rolls each year when they are first issued and hold them in case someone discovers a significant error on coins of that year then rolls become valuable.

WELCOMEEEE TO THE FORUMMMMMMMMMM.
Way back when I was a little dummer I too used to save all kinds of rolls of coins. All the ones from the 50's and 60's I still have. Then one day I said to myself, SELF, what are you doing with all that STUFF. So I opened rolls from the 80's, 90's, looked for anything of value, took the entire mess to a bank. I did pull out a lot of 82's just in case, but those too will soon join a banks counting machine.
Myself and a friend USED to save those Bicentennial Quarters thinking that some day they will be worth a fortune. Those too ended up in a bank. Many of us collect bulk, rolls, boxes of coins for tomorrow. When your old and you see tomorrow now here, time to get rid of just STUFF.
