So I am relatively new to coin collecting/hoarding and was feeling ambitious today, so I went to my bank and bought 4 (10 dollar) rolls of halves. The first 3 rolls were assorted 80's and 90's with a couple seventies and on the last roll was a 67 and a 64 half. Needless to say I am excited with such luck on my first rolls! I honestly wasn't expecting anything with the first 3 being duds but my surprise when the 1964 is staring up at me.
They aren't in super awesome condition but will post pics/scan of them if anyone wants to see them! Anyone else with beginner's luck story!?

Good finds! It is always exciting to find good coins from circulation. Keep on searching and keep on letting us know what you find. There is an extensive thread on JFK roll hunting where you can post your finds: https://goccf.com/t/22710

I keep buying halves, but in my area every roll has one with a big T in permanent marker on it. I'm guessing this is a mark put there by a serious roll hunter in my area. By the way, my rolls are all junk! I use them to buy the occasional gas station junk food and fast food.

If you can still get those rolls of halves, I'd save as many as you can. Halves are becoming really scarce around me. At five different banks around me halves are not kept, ordered and they really don't want them. If you bring them in they are shipped out to the Federal Researve. Bank of Ameriac around me has implemented a no half dollar policy. I haven't seen one for about a year now.

Wow ! I didn't know a federal licensed bank could discriminate again legal U.S. coins. I know my banks rarely have them but when I do find some and turn them in at my dump bank they don't say anything. I know the local credit union won't accept them though. Hey Jays-Dad. Did you ever trhink the T stood for trash ? Should be a big J for junk.

I have bought all my rolls at Bank of America. I asked today if they could order a 500 dollar box of em and they said they dont order them. The only ones I can get are the halves the people roll themselves which comes with some "risk". (mainly not finding anything because they are presearched) I dump at another bank : D

I've run into a couple of banks that say they won't order halves. I figure they know what's going on and don't want any part of it. Face it, half dollars just don't circulate and wind up back at a bank (which pays a premium to ship them out). My main dump bank tells me that they have to empty all the rolls I've been cashing in into a $1000.00 bag before they can ship it out. Thats why banks are so happy to unload rolls of halves they have laying around. Unless a bank is somebodys dump bank, it can take a very long time to accumulate $1000.00 in halves.

Even if they want no part of it it still seems like bad business to not do something for a customer (I have an account there). I can see if it was like just anyone off the street but eh, not my bank, not my rules : P And yes that would take a while for some banks to load up 1000 dollars in halves!

Motos, Yes it is bad business! That's why I changed banks and found one that would order me boxes of halves. I have accounts at 3 different banks. It was 4, but I was dumping halves at a bank that refused to order me a box.....And they sent me a letter telling me to close my account....or they would do it for me. The banks are handling your money....find one that meets your needs!

Yea I am almost thinking about it. It would be so much easier to order a 500 box then to go to the Bank of America teller who looks at me like I'm growing five arms when I ask for 100 dollars in halves : P Andddd then dump them at Bank of America : D
BTW what happened with your "close your account" letter? Did you fight or did they close it?

I closed the account. Haven't been back since. It's a shame, because my first and best box of halves came from them. 4-1964's, 19-40%, a 1999S silver proof and a Bennie! They just refused to order me another box...even after I offered to pay extra for the service. It took 7 boxes from the next bank to find any silver. I've done better stopping in every bank (except my dump) within a 10 mile radius and grabbing up every roll and loose half they have.
