I'm new to the forum and am an avid collector so I know enough to get me in trouble...that said, tonight I was helping my in-laws catalog their parent's mishmash collection of coins, there were the usual Morgan and Peace dollars, the Barber and Mercury Head dimes and various coins in all kinds of grades and denominations. However as I was admiring the Peace and Morgan dollars as they are my favorites in any grade and I came across a Morgan dollar that struck me as odd - the date was 1800, I checked it again and again thinking I needed to update my glasses and sure enough this Morgan dollar said 1800. Has anyone heard of this type of misstrike - I've found nothing on the web and the coin has been locked away in a sock drawer for more than 50 years, a crime in of itself so it's not a Chinese or Afghan knock off. Please help. I'll add a photo tomorrow. Thanks, Ryan L.

Have a picture by chance?
Did it spec out for size and weight?

Since NO Morgans were struck in 1800, a picture is surely needed on this one.

I do not have a scale or calipers to get the exact dimensions of the coin but it similar to the size and weight of my other Morgan dollars in my collection.

Normally I would say it is a fake or counterfeit if not to be so blunt! However, the first "0" in the Date looks a little funky...like it was tooled. Considering that it is an "O" (New Orleans) minted coin, it is possible that someone re-worked the "8" (as in 1880-O) into a "0".
