The online auction firm Teletrade is currently running a nice deal- if you register for bidding on Teletrade, you will get a free one year ANA membership. It is basically the same thing as registering at Heritage; it is free, you get access to the auction archives, and you do not need to bid on anything. Edited by biokemist6 07/30/2009 10:28 pm

I also went through the registration process; the final page said "with your promotional code, you MAY be eligible for free ANA membership" (caps mine). What does that mean, I might not be?

I think there is a bit of confusion here- Teletrade is offing a one year full membership. In addition to Teletrade, Julian Leidman is offering a six month basic membership. The difference between the two is that full members receive monthly mailings of The Numismatist and basic members just have online access to the magazine, $41 vs $28. CND, the "may be eligible" part is probably due to the fact that they have to verify that you have never registered with Teletrade, not a previous member of the ANA, and you are one of the first 1,000 to register. I got my verification in the mail from Teletrade about a week after registering. I should be getting the membership packet from the ANA soon.

biokemist6,
Thanks for the clarification. I fit all of those, so unless I wasn't one of the first 1000, I should be fine!

I wonder if they will extend a current membership?

I have been receiving emails from the ANA for about two weeks now and it was apparent that the emails were meant for members. Today, I finally got my membership packet Did anyone else get a freebie?

I am not surprised there offering free memberships after that largely dissapointing show here in L.A. couple of weeks ago. I will not be renewing my membership. PNG here I come. Comiccon got more press then L.A. ANA

Hmmmm, can anyone give us a rundown on whether it is worth joining or not? Any current (or ex maybe) members with opinions? Although access to that library could be pretty sweet it seems every time I read about the ANA it is something about politics and such. I'm really kinda maxxed out on B.S. in my life and usually don't like to add to that if I can help it so if anyone with experience with them could throw in their Two Cent Piece it would be appreciated.

biokemist, Glad to hear that you got yours; I joined through the Teletrade offer about the same time that you did and I have not heard a thing from the ANA yet. I get plenty of borderline SPAM email from Teletrade, though!

I'm not sure if a membership really is worth it even if free.

At the very least, the 10% discount from Wizard Coin Supply, the $10 off a Numismatic News subscription, and the Hugh Wood collection insurance will make it more than worth it
