As I review the forum this morning I note many very old topics at the top of the page. Great, we have renewed interest and additional dialogue that may spur deeper discussions. Unfortunately I haven't found one yet that meets this criteria. All are one-liners in an apparent race to 50. 50 is the magic number here that unlocks doors to emails between members and the ability to play in games, buy and sell. This "probation" period allows the CCF mods and members to assess who you are and to remove scammers/schemers/spammers ... we are joyfully free of this rabble.

The forum rules require 50 "quality" posts and 14-day wait. What is a quality post? There is no hard and fast rule on what constitutes quality, but there are some guidelines ... One-liners as a general rule don't qualify. A genuine opinion with supporting rationale, idea, or question usually does qualify. With a 14-day wait in addition to the 50 quality posts a new member can meet this requirement with just four daily posts.

For those who play by the rules I thank you for your contributions ... these add to the joy that is coin collecting.

Nicely put, SeatedNut, and thank you for bringing the topic up. Further, nohope587, you are correct in believing that we are quite appreciative of help from members, short of vigilantism of course. This is an area of particular concern to the staff, and it should be noted that the fact that you see us doing nothing in public does not indicate that we're unaware. Post counts are not locked in stone, you know.

Being one of those 'New Members' trying to reach the magic number, I appreciate your qualification. I have been coming here for a couple weeks and would like to reach the acceptance point, however your regular members are so intelligent and quick with the answers it leaves little for us newbie collectors (and site members) to comment on other to say 'I agree' or 'Atta boy/girl'.

Please do not misunderstand me, I truly enjoy their input and valuable information (and occasional attempts at humor). I am looking forward to reaching and breaking through this invisible barrier.

(so, does this one count towards my 50?) :)

rikcando, its not the people that hit 50 posts quickly that bother us, its the ones that hit that number and as soon as they get 50 posts they head to the sell boards trying to unload everything they don't want from the kitchen sink on down. We can usually tell some members that are truly trying to communicate with others about coins and the ones that are here just to unload their stuff or scam the members pretty quickly. This bringing up topics that are very old with a "yeah" or "nice coin" time after time is one sure fire way to get our attention

Bryan, thanks for the further clarification. I've found ebay is handy enough to sell off the ones I don't want or need, but I might be interested in buying from members here. Your comment makes clear the commitment of the site administrators to try and make me feel safer about such a prospect. I have plenty of time left before I cash in, so I can handle the delays for such reasons as given above.

And I can hear my wife now, "Ok, so ya sold the sink, and whatare ya gonna use to do the dishes in now, hun."

rikcando,

I've been a member for a bit over two years. It took me a couple of months to hit 50 and I also was amazed at the expertise here. But I did have personal perspectives that I gained from almost 50 years of interest in this hobby. I shared these freely and enjoyed personal stories related to topics submitted by other members ... shows we are not just "All Business" here. It's the closest thing to a family you'll find on the net.

Some day I'll post an auction or coin for sale here ... I think I've met the criteria.

Also, some of the contests and the "neverending" story are a riot, and each time you guess or add your five words you get another post to your credit. I've made some excellent friends in contest threads just by giving them a hard time. Give them a try! Give jbuck a reason to live! lol

Well not exactly. There are some subforums that don't count towards your post count such as General, CCF Family, Support, etc.

And there are 2836 posts for the Neverending Story...half of which is from 2 people alone

I just joined tonight, but I must say I agree with keeping out the riff raff. If that is what has to happen, it seems fair to me. I hope to mostly learn, but when I have a substantial comment, I will let my compatriots know. Now I just have to think of a good signature.

I love that topic.
It makes a lot of sense to me, and apparently some others as well, and it is a ton of fun.
I hope it never ends!

I must agree...You shouldn't even be looking at your number of posts over here.
Just discuss at your own will with time and intelligence and you'll get a lot more than 50.
