Hey guys, My name is Evan and I am completely new to this other than some coin I collected as a kid. Recently my grandfather passed away and we discovered a set of UD Gold coins in mint condition in his safety deposit box. As far as I've read this set of 6 coins are extremely rare but I was wondering how rare and what there worth. If anybody could give me a rough approximation it would be much appreciated. Heres what they are:
I think they are the lady liberty set in the sense that they are all the same style coin, but from different years. Here are their designations and year. The $20 coin is dated 1903, the $10 is from 1906, the $5 is from 1900, the $3 is 1874, the $2-1/2 is 1905, and the $1 peice is 1852. They all have as far as I understand, the lady liberty head on one side. On the other side is the eagle. Can anyone help me out with pricing or even some facts about these coins?
Thank you,
Evan

First welcome to CCF. I'm no pro, but here is my opinion. The value will vary on condition, so pictures will be needed. Also the coins may have a mint mark which will be needed to determine the value. I can tell you that what you have is a few thousand dollars in gold and the 1874 and 1852 may be the best in value. Wait to hear from one of the gold coin pros, and welcome again. Bill

Hello Evan, Sorry to hear about your grandfather. My condolences to your family. These coins are at least worth the value of the gold content (around 2 ounces total) but potentially could be worth much more, depending on condition. They need to be inspected carefully by an experienced dealer. If they are original mint states coins (not cleaned or damaged) it may be worthwhile to have them graded by a reputable third-party grading service, such as PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. The grading services also determine whether coins are authentic. This is important because US gold coins are commonly counterfeited. My TPG choice would be PCGS. The 1874 three-dollar coin is a common date but will be worth over $2000 if it makes the lowest undamaged mint state grade (MS-60). If the quality is higher the value will be much greater. If the gold dollar is a Philadelphia coin it is common. Check below the wreath on the reverse for a mintmark. If there is an O (New Orleans), C (Charlotte), or D (Dahlonega) you have a more valuable coin. No mintmark means Philadelphia. The other coins are all common dates but could still be worth much more than bullion value if they are choice mint state. Condition means everything for these coins. Please post some photos of the coins (both sides) if possible. We may be able to suggest which (if any) should be professionally graded.

well it seems like your grandfather left you something very nice. Maybe it will re-light the spark in you to start a collection yourself again. Some of the coins you mentioned hold a pretty good premium over spot price but not sure how much until we can see condition to give you a round about value but even in XF condition the $3.00 gold coin is worth about 900 to 1000 dollars if graded by a reputable TPG (and if I was looking to sell thgem that would be a good thing to have done)

The value lies in the individual coins, the set as a whole has no bearing on value.
