Looking through a couple of 1974S rolls for large and small dates, but I found these two to of interest. I think both are Machine Doubling of the mint mark. What are your ideas?

One with three pictures at different light angles and one picture of the second coin.

Pictures are getting better each time, but still not the best. At least you can read dates and mintmark.

Yes it is Machine Doubling. The same distortion is seen on the tops of the date like the top of the mint mark. Always a bad sign if the date and mint mark are doubled in the same direction.

Thanks coop. Almost missed getting the date in the photo. I will do better next time. Just another note that in the two rolls I searched the Large Date to Small date was 50:50.

Now if you could find the other four dies in BU you could sell the 6 coin set. One from each mint Large and Small dates. I'll do that some day when I get a chance. They are easy to find to make these up and sell on ebay.

You could also hang on to it as the last business strike from the SF mint.
