coindexter ... coop is sleeping in this morning. Here's a picture of the real deal:

Note the dramatic separation on the 'B' in LIBERTY and most of the letters in the motto.

The actual doubled die is unmistakable. It's very strong and has clear separation in the doubling. The mintmark is also unaffected by the doubling.

Nice coin SeatedNut. A little out of my coin budget, but I keep looking for it.

Coindexter: You got it. The 1968-70 years are probably the most searched and have the most Machine Doubling. But Machine Doubling can happen any year.

I'd like to see an in focus picture. No it is clearly not "The DDO" but is that one the only one? I will also agree though that the MM appearing the have the same doubling is not a good sign (But at least a couple of the big DDO coins have MDD on their mintmarks as well as the hub doubling so I don't automatically dismiss a coin as a DDO just because the mintmark is doubled.)

Just a note: One of the more recently discovered 1969 S DDO Lincolns does exhibit some Machine Doubling along with the effects of being struck by a doubled die. The coin at the top of the thread is machine doubled as noted.

Thanks,
Bill

To me the date and mint mark looks like it is DD and liberty looks more MD. I see no shelf they seem rounded and do not reduce the size of the numbers or letters.

If the date and mintmark are doubled together it's definitely Machine Doubling, no doubt about it. The date and mintmark were placed into the die during completely different processes of creating the die, so it's very highly unlikely that they could both exhibit the same spread.

What you have is achine doubling and nothing else. Sorry.
