I will be going to the UK soon (and I've never been off this darn continent in my life - and I don't count Hawaii!). I will be going on a guided tour through England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. However, there will be days/times when I have some freedom. Are there any numismatic points of interest (including really good coin stores) that I should try to go to?

I lived in the England for over 10 years now and I would be interested in seeing what people come up with. You can't visit Royal Mint because of "health & safety". They only suggest seeing HSBC Money Gallery at the British Museum. What places/cities/towns are you visiting? Nothern Wales around Snowdonia is very nice....many nice castles in the area (Caernarfon Castle for example). Warwick Castle is nice. I have not made it up to Scotland yet. Been to Stonehenge a few times.....amazing thing there is just looking over the countryside and wondering how they managed to get the stones there and how they built the thing.

My itinerary is a bit too complex to retype here, but it's fairly comprehensive over 13 days of actual "visit time". Snowdonia does sound familiar, but we should be hitting a good portion of what most might say are the "high points" or on our free time hit those that might otherwise be missing. That's a bummer about The Royal Mint, though.

The British Natural history museum in London is a must (I see Kena beat me to it). The coin room has a lot of eye candy. If you are in London the Coincrafters is always a good stop. Bath has an excellent hole in the wall coin shop in one of the towers on the bridge over the river at Pulteney Bridge. Cirencester (Roman Corinium) has a great museum with some roman coins. There is also a bunch of roman ruins in the area.

In oxford there is a museum with a coin collection but I was in oxford a week ago and I think it is closed till november some time, if you are coming then.
Don't go to stonehenge, it is just a bunch of rocks standing on each other, look at a picture and wonder at how old it is, but seeing it is nothing in my opinion.
London has quite a few coin shops. If you want to buy a coin book then waterstones will have one, and then you can look and see where the main coin shops are. Maybe you'll get lucky and find out about some shows that are on when you are free. That would be the best.

Yeah, that's the one. I always forget the names. I was there a few years back and I remember there being some sort of coin collection!
